DaffodilsToday is one of those days that the fog is thick and you can barely see 100 feet. It’s surreal and one of my favorite kinds of days. Always a surprise to wake up to in the morning. Definitely a day to stay inside and cozy.

I’ve been itching for Spring lately. After all, it is April and the 100 daffodil bulbs I planted in the gardens last Fall are still barely peeking through the ground!?! I think they know something since they are only about two inches tall…although the high for this Saturday is 75℉. Hopefully that will help! I’m ready Spring…anytime you want to stop taunting me and decide to stick around. I see playing in the gardens on my weekend agenda! Speaking of gardening, my little vegetable and flower seedlings are started and doing well. I’m planning to start a few more today and hope for the best, as they may be a little neglected with everything going on in the next few weeks.

Anyways, the trees are budding, new bright green blades of grass are sprouting, the birds are chirping and I’m sure that all of these April showers are going to bring gorgeous blooms soon!

We have a very busy mouse…and a very lazy cat in our household. Our house was built in 1873. It’s an old farmhouse…we’ve worked hard to make it sealed, but there is apparently a crack we missed. Anyways, I discovered this weekend that my cooking utensil drawer had been stockpiled with Noisy’s food. Definitely a new discovery…wasn’t there the day before. And judging from the amount the mouse has been working very, very, very hard.

I decided to move Noisy’s food bowl to the other side of the room last evening to make the mouse have to work a little harder and to give Noisy a fighting chance at catching the little bugger. I even locked him out of the bedroom so that he couldn’t sleep with me. And no dice.

Noisy apparently spent his time doing this…

S22_9864So, I’m off to buy some mouse traps!

I figured since yesterday I gave a preview of the what our little guys and big guys are wearing, I’d give you a preview of the girls dresses as well!

We’re definitely going for a fun look with our wedding party and some bright colors as you can tell from the our Vineyard Vines picks for the guys. I decided also have fun with the girls and let tthem each pick a style of dress in the same color. It’s called “pool” and the only other requirement was that it couldn’t be long either. So here are the dresses they picked!

Sarah & Laurie picked this one:

Liza is wearing this one:

And Katie picked this cute dress:

We looked for a fun dress for Elizabeth too, but the colors were a bit tough to match. It just so happens that Elizabeth’s best friend is also in a wedding this Spring and they are the same size. Megan sent over the dress E’s best friend is wearing and we decided it was almost perfect, except for the sash. Wonderful Janet, who has been lovingly altering my dress for me has made a sash to match my dress. Here’s the sample picture of E’s dress that she’ll wear as our flower girl. So sweet and she’ll be so pretty!

Keeping with the fun style of our wedding, I wanted a simple dress for myself and didn’t want to spend a fortune. Ed and I decided that $350 was max for the dress…and I began searching. I learned about some great resources (Recycled Bride, Once Wed and Pre Owned Wedding Dresses) and ended up finding the perfect J Crew wedding dress that had been discontinued through Once Wed…brand new with tags! And I came in under budget, with it costing a whopping $275…shipped!!!!!!! I met with Janet and I think she fell in love with it as much as I did from the start. We’ve changed a few things about it to make it my dream dress and ready for some serious fun on the farm. I can’t wait for June 25th!!!

Ring Bear #2We finally picked out what our adorable Ring Bears (aka Ring Bearers) and ushers will be wearing for the wedding. The Groomsman are all wearing the same shirts and will have pants instead of shorts. We had already picked out the guys clothes, but saw these matching ones in the Vineyard Vines Spring collection and knew they would be perfect. Ed snapped this quick pic of Ben modeling his new clothes. I think they are going to be so cute!

Oh yeah…there’s a sale on through midnight today at Vineyard Vines for 20% off your order. 🙂 Just thought I’d share that…they have some great things!

IMG_0317Today is an important day…my most favorite guy, Mr. Always Happy Life (aka Ed) is having a birthday!!! For those of you that know about our other little company, Sail22…today’s date is one of the reasons for the “22”. Due to tweaking my back, I was unable to join him on the road this week, but I know the Elsey family is treating him to a very special birthday celebration today. I won’t be missing out on next year, it’s a big one! 😉 Make sure to send him birthday wishes!!!

I tweaked my back…and am struggling with it. A pinched nerve. All I can say is, “Ouch”. Something so simple as stretching yesterday morning with my arms over my head caused it. The kind of pain where you can’t move and the tears come in rivers. I have a high pain tolerance too, but this really hurts. Nothing really seems to make it better, although this morning I stretched a little and it improved for awhile.

There’s so much to do when we are home and I really struggle to sit/lay still and heal. Wasn’t on my “to-do” list. I’d rather be out in the garden getting ready for Spring or painting the rest of our new bedroom trim. I have to say, I’m so glad we painted the bedroom. Since I’ve been spending extra time in there, it makes me happy to see the walls look so much better. I really like the color we picked too. Depending on the time of day, it looks blue or gray. I am lucky to have Ed, he’s been great, helping with anything I need and making sure I rest. Seriously, not in the plans. So, I’ll be working on quiet things the next few days as I rest my back. I might even read a book…it’s been awhile. Any recommendations?

Oh yeah, and yesterday our fridge decided to call it quits too. Our old one was free and a great fridge with the freezer on the bottom. It was black though and we knew it was on it’s last legs. Luckily we were home when it went, or else it would have been a mess. Definitely didn’t owe us anything. So…we ended up having a new fridge delivered today. Thank you Lowe’s next day delivery. We opted for a side-by-side stainless steel one. It’s very shiny and best of all…it’s cold!

All is well with Ed & I. We were in Miami last week for sailing. Ed raced Viper’s and finished 4th and I spent two days out on the water shooting the different classes in the regatta. It was great to catch up with people we hadn’t seen in awhile and also meet new sailors. If you wish you could have been out on the water with us…here’s the gallery links to check them out.

We stopped in Atlanta on the way back home and spent time with the Elsey family. Elizabeth is SOOO excited about our upcoming wedding and wants to know everything. 🙂 She’s now in the super secret club of people who have seen pictures of my dress. I am so lucky to have Janet doing the alterations on my dress and keeping me posted as she works on it. She’s customized it to be exactly how I pictured it and I think she loves it as much as I do! Elizabeth definitely approved of it. The boys were fun as always, running to greet us when we arrived and climbing into the back of the truck to help Ed unpack our bags. They love chasing bugs around the yard with their lacrosse sticks (I guess they lost their ball) and chasing each other. Ben is definitely going to be bigger than Luke by the wedding, if he isn’t already! Luke is the snuggly one and comes in to wake us up in the morning. He climbs in bed with us and chats it up. Cute as can be. It’s always so great to visit them and we look forward to seeing them again next week.

We also spent some time with the Furry boys and had a great time catching up at an adults only dinner with Greg & Katie. Greg came up with a genius idea. Daniel really wanted to go out to dinner with us, but the younger boys didn’t want to go. Greg convinced them that in order to stay home, they both had to pay Daniel $10 each to babysit him…and they did! Genius I tell you.

In other exciting news, Van Horne Jeweler’s called and let us know my rings were finished and they had a few for Ed to pick from too! We started working with them in late January to design a custom setting for the diamond from Ed’s Grandma Furry. We worked with Bill Martin to design the setting and the whole process was great. We ended up even designing a matching wedding band for me and he worked with us to find the perfect titanium band for Ed. Everyone on the staff was wonderful and excited to work with us. We highly recommend them and couldn’t be happier! So, now I have a beautiful and meaningful engagement ring and I can’t stop looking at my left hand! Love it. Happy Life for sure. 🙂
PS-Excuse the iPhone pictures…we sent the camera in for a check-up to Nikon…so we’re making due with what we’ve got!

This afternoon on my flight from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale there were the cutest little kids behind me. Blonde as could be, blue eyes, completely charming and well behaved. The kind of kids you don’t mind sitting behind you on a plane. You know what I mean…

Anyways, we are getting ready to leave the gate and the little guy, I’d say he was about two and a half, says, “Mom, we’re wiggling” and as we pulled back from the gate, I hear a “Cool” out of him again. As we taxied to the runway, he starts saying, “Red alert! Red alert!” and I hear his mom tell him gently that he shouldn’t say that because people on the plane might become worried. So, he switches to “Green alert!”. At this point, everyone in the seats around us are completely entertained by him. On the runway, as the plane is starting to take off, the little one again chimes in again…this time with, “5…4…3…2…1….BLAST-OFF!!!!!!!!!”. Hilarious. 🙂 Their mom reminded them a few times that they were a bit excited and to use their “restaurant voices”. In actuality, they were never really that loud and were quite entertaining.

After landing, as we all waited to deplane, both of the kiddos proudly displayed their wings. Too cute!

Last weekend I snuck away on Friday and convinced two of my very best friends to meet me for a Girls Weekend. And we had a BLAST!!!!

We decided on Orlando since two of us could drive there from our locations and it was a reasonable flight for the other. It worked out perfectly, except Laurie ended up getting caught in a rain storm on the way down and stuck in random traffic on the way back home which definitely prolonged her travel time. We’re coming to you next time L!

We stayed a swanky hotel across from Downtown Disney, drank red wine in bed, played hard at the Magic Kingdom all day on Saturday and then spent Sunday morning being pampered in the hotel spa with massages. Hot Rock Massage for me…dare I say…AMAZING? It had been way too long since I’d had a massage and was the perfect way to start my birthday morning.

We’ll be doing a Girls Weekend again sooner than later I believe and definitely hope to have other friends join us in the future!
